Other Fish in the Sea
by Francis Hanover
The dreaming girl that I once was
Prayed out a common wish
To have and to hold
From a perfect mould
An exotic and beautiful fish
Oh a fish did come and swim before me
Quivering his luminescent scales
No words could I utter
For my heart was aflutter
I had found the most glorious of males!
I swam behind Fish through the shadows
But, Sun’s gold fingers the darkness broke through
And to my surprise
Sun pulled off Fish’s disguise
And revealed a Snail in the shallow blue
Oh how my heart did break at this turn of events
How the world heard my angry plea
But, alas …
Just for the halibut
Let’s continue to troll a bit
Because I know there are plenty of other
fish in the sea.
